Hello from inside the Vortex. Outside, to quote the great David Lee Roth: “the heatwave blasts and kids are screaming. Pavement’s hot and sidewalk’s steaming” but it’s cool, for the most part, here inside the store. And we’re apparently one of the few locations along the river that has no mayflies swarming all over the exterior. That alone is a good reason to visit us.
Tomorrow (Wednesday 6/26) we have a book release party from 5pm to 7pm for John Urbancik’s new dark fantasy novel, The Secret History of the Palace Theater. Stop in after work. We’ll be serving drinks and light fare, and John will be on hand to sign copies of the new book as well as his other books. If you’re not local, or unable to make it in tomorrow evening, you can pre-order signed copies from our website until midnight tonight. Please only use this version if you are unable to physically make it into the store (because otherwise, it will automatically charge you for shipping).
But wait… THERE’S MORE!
This Saturday (6/29) is the biggest book signing event we’ve had yet! Ronald Malfi, Rebecca Rowland, L. Marie Wood, Jessica McHugh, Vaughn A. Jackson, Stephanie Pearre, Jessica L. Sparrow, and Ichabod Cassius Kilroy are in house and signing from 1pm to 4pm. We will have plenty of books on hand. You may also bring books from home to be signed. You don’t want to miss this event! Plan your weekend around it.
And this Sunday is, of course, Magic the Gathering from noon to 4pm. Note to players: we DO have more Modern Horizons III on the way, but will probably not have them in stock until next week. In the meantime, however, we’ve restocked on March of the Machine, Outlaws of Thunder Junction, and Murders at Karlov Manor.
We’ve also restocked on Pokemon. We have soooooooo manyyyyyyyy Pokemon now.
Last week’s special newsletter-only unadvertised sale worked so well, that I want to do it again. So… this week, between opening of business on Wednesday morning until 5pm on Sunday, we’re running a secret 20% off special on ALL items in the showcases. If you’ve had your eye on those CGC slabbed Amazing Spider-Man and Superman issues, or that Golden Age Shadow comic, or those signed Clive Barker, Brian Lumley, and J.F. Gonzalez novels, now’s your chance to get them at 20% off their already reasonable prices. But remember, this is unadvertised. We’re not going to bring it up at checkout. You have to let us know, “I’d like to take advantage of the secret discount from your newsletter”. And then you’ll get it. ;-) Discount applies only to showcase purchases — store credit cannot be used in conjunction with this offer.
By popular request, we’ve begun listing some of our rare books on our online store. Currently, we have a number of Thunderstorm Books signed limited editions available by various authors. In the coming days we’ll be adding books from Arkham house, Delirium Books, Bloodletting Books, Cemetery Dance, Gnome Press, and others. In most cases, these are going to be single copies only, so once someone buys it, it’s gone for good. The books are also available here in person, as well, if you’re local.
A reminder that we will be closed for the holiday on Wednesday, July 4th.
