Hello from inside the Vortex. Here’s a round-up of everything that’s going on.
Our first Free Comic Book Day was a success! Thanks to everyone who braved the rain and came out. It was definitely the store’s busiest day since opening on Superbowl Sunday. And good news! If you missed out, we still have some free comic books left over. Stop in and take one along.
Of course, a big part of Free Comic Book Day’s success was that we also had John Urbancik, Jessica Eppley, and Matt Wildasin signing in the store that day, as well. Our thanks to them for hanging out, and thanks to their readers for attending. If you missed out, we’ve got a few copies of each of their books left.
Our second Free Movie Night takes place this coming Friday, the 10th. The movie starts at 7pm and will be over at approximately 9pm Attendance is free but seating is limited, so arrive early if you can.
This coming Sunday, May 12th, is Mother’s Day. But it’s also gaming day at the store. We’ll have our regular Magic the Gathering casual play from noon to 4pm, but we’ll also have a FREE workshop on Dungeons & Dragons character creation, hosted by our resident Dungeon Master C.J., from 11am to 3pm. If you’re curious about playing D&D but have never tried or aren’t sure how to create a character, stop on in and let C.J. show you the ropes. The same goes for Magic the Gathering. Most of the regulars are playing Commander, but all types of gameplay are welcome. And if you’ve never played Magic but are curious or want to learn, join us. Someone will be very happy to show you the ropes.
And coming up in the weeks ahead — signings by Baltimore’s David Simmons, Central Pennsylvania’s Justin Lutz, Canada’s John R. Little, and bestselling indie duo Aron Beauregard and Kristopher Triana! Check out the full event schedule here.
Thanks to each and every one of you who has donated to DEAD FORMAT — the feature film which is going to be shot right inside the store (and outside the store, as well). As I said last week, we’re looking forward to bringing some jobs to Columbia this Fall. We’ll also need extras, and of course, we’ll look to our customers first. ;-)
