Hello again from inside Vortex Books & Comics, where we are currently riddled with a heady mix of anxiety and anticipation. Why? Because we have an insanely busy schedule this month. Check this out:

THURSDAY, September 12
4pm-7pm
Kristopher Triana and Aron Beauregard return for a signing, and they’re bringing Daniel J. Volpe, World Champion Kickboxer Wrath James White, Judith Sonnet, Shane McKenzie, and Lucas Mangum with them! These authors are best of the best in Extreme Horror and they descend upon Central Pennsylvania from all over the U.S. for a three-hour signing. Chaos will ensue!

FRIDAY, September 13
Free Movie Night, hosted by Wesley Southard 7pm-9pm

SATURDAY, September 14
1pm-3pm
Join us for the debut of Amanda Headlee’s latest book! And meet multiple Bram Stoker Award winning and Splatterpunk Award winning author Jeff Strand and multiple Splatterpunk Award winning author Bridgett Nelson! And if that’s not enough, New Jersey’s Thomas R. Clark and newcomer Larry Hinkle will be signing, as well.

Writers Group — Open to the public. Writers of all genres and skill levels are welcome.

Three rising superstars — Kentucky’s Laurel Hightower, Virginia’s Red Lagoe, and filmmaker Samantha Kolesnik join us for a signing. And if that’s not enough, many of the authors from the new FEAR OF CLOWNS anthology will also be on hand, including Hailey Piper, Hunter Shea, Kenneth W. Cain, Kevin Kangas, Todd Keisling, and Jonathan Lees.

Whew…

So, that’s a total of 21 authors signing books at the store this month. That means ordering enough books for all 21 of them to sign (which is an enormous expenditure), and making sure those books arrive on time, and making sure each of the authors knows where and when to arrive, and hoping and praying that their fans and customers will show up and purchase autographed copies of those books (which again, are an enormous expenditure).

We’ve done our part in all of that. Now, it’s up to you, our customers. ;-)

And if you’re reading this from some far off place, well, maybe this is the month for you to take a vacation and come visit us. Maybe you plan it to coincide with one of these signings. Maybe you visit this handy Vacation At Vortex page we’ve made, which lists nearby hotels, airports, train stations, etc.

(In addition to all of this, Brian has to drive to Haverhill, Massachusetts for an overnight trip at some point this month, and transport the entire contents of author James A. Moore’s library back to Vortex, where it can be inventoried and appraised for Jim’s widow. So yes, it’s a very busy four weeks).

Last week’s canned food drive for the local homeless and recovery center went great! Thanks to the Columbia Public Library and all of our customers who pitched in and donated.

We’ll do it again in a few months.
