National Indie Bookstore Day
Hello from inside Vortex Books & Comics, where filming is over and things are back to normal. While production on the feature film DEAD FORMAT (which you can learn more about here) will continue throughout the summer and fall, the sequences set inside Video Castle (aka Vortex Books & Comics) are wrapped.
Here are a few pics of the cast and crew.
Although we did our absolute best to inform customers and the public what was happening, we still heard from a few passerby that either thought we were going out of business or that we had turned into a video store. Thanks to our neighbors, our fellow merchants, and our customers for their patience and support.
This Saturday is National Indie Bookstore Day! Let us tell you right up front — no, we were not able to get any of Paul Tremblay’s exclusive National Indie Bookstore Day release. However, we DO have literally thousands of books in stock, and ALL OF THEM are 20% off on Saturday. That’s right. Take 20% off all books — new and used. Paperback and hardcover. And yes, it also applies to our rare and signed books.
Speaking of signed books, Linda Addison and Jamal Hodge will be at the store from 1pm to 3pm to help us celebrate National indie Bookstore Day. Linda is a poet and writer, and the first African-American to ever win a Bram Stoker Award, which she has gone on to win repeatedly (five times total). Jamal Hodge is a multi-award-winning filmmaker and writer who is a sitting Board Member of Harlem Film House and Axs Lab. We will have plenty of their books on hand for purchase. You are also welcome to bring books from home. Q&A begins promptly at 1pm, followed by a signing until 3pm.
MAGIC THE GATHERING returns to our annex this Sunday, from noon until 4pm. Going forward, we will host MtG every Sunday at that time.
