Hello from inside the Vortex. We have a LOT of things to go over this week, so let’s get down to it.
First off, thanks to everyone who showed up last Saturday for our first signing event. It was very successful, and we couldn’t be happier. Thanks also to Stephen Kozeniewski, Somer Canon, Wesley Southard, and Wile E. Young for taking time out of their busy schedules to come sign books and meet their readers and support the store. Particularly Wile, who flew here all the way from Oklahoma. We appreciate all of you.
If you were unable to make it in to the store during the signing, that’s okay! They were all gracious enough to sign what was left, and those books are now available here on the shelves. But they won’t last long. (Indeed, signed copies of Slaves To Gravity by Wesley and Somer are almost sold out already. We’re down to our last copy).
We’ve got two events this coming weekend.
The second meeting of our Writer’s group will meet this Friday night (April 5th) from 6pm to 8pm. They’re going to be discussing social media — how they use it, tips and tricks, what works for each other. All writers are welcome to attend, regardless of where you’re at in your career. Last month, the ages ranged from 16 to mid-70s, and experience ranged from unpublished to bestsellers. Everyone is very chill, and it’s a great way to socialize and network with other writers and editors.
Then, on Sunday (April 7th) Sarah Langan, Cynthia Pelayo, and Todd Keisling will be here signing books from Noon to 4pm. Sarah is on a nationwide tour to promote her latest novel A Better World, and Cynthia is on a nationwide tour to promote her latest novel Forgotten Sisters. Todd is local, so he’s not traveling as far as Sarah and Cynthia (California and Chicago, respectively). He’s an author who’s star is on the rise. Come find out why. Q&A starts at noon, and then they’ll sign books after. Rumor has it that award-winning poet Linda Addison might also make a surprise appearance, all the way from Arizona.
It feels pretty cool to see Vortex listed on this graphic.
I should note, there will be no Magic the Gathering in-store this Sunday, due to the signing.
I want to remind you that we will be closed next week. Mary and I are attending the funeral of author Weston Ochse, who is being laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. Then, later in the week, I have a charity event in Williamsburg and mary has a family obligation in New Jersey. Thus, the store will be closed Wednesday the 10th through Sunday the 14th.
But when we reopen, I’m happy to announce that we will finally have Magic the Gathering, and comics from Marvel, Zenescope, Dynamite, etc. in stock!
